I heard someone say the other day that they aren't an introvert, they're a neurodivergent extrovert. And that really struck a chord with me.
All my life I've thought I was an introvert because I had difficulty relating to my peers (I've even had teachers announce to the whole class what an introvert they think I am). But the thing is, when I'm in the right company, I open up and connect with everyone very eagerly.
Fast forward to my 20's and I've discovered so much about autism, neurodivergence, and who I really am (funnily enough, a close male family member was diagnosed as autistic from childhood, so the answer was staring us in the face the whole time).
I also wanna say thank you to this group for showing me that there is a whole community of people I can actually relate to. Whenever I see these posts on my feed I feel excited to interact, because the for the first time in my life I see people describing very specific experiences that also apply to me. And that is a wonderful feeling that I'm not used to.
Anyone else have the realization that they were never an introvert, they just didn't relate to neurotypicals?
