When I was 5 we lived in northern Iowa, where my dad had grown up. Every Saturday night we went out to dinner with my grandma who lived in the next town. On the 20 minute drive home I would always pretend to fall asleep. My dad would scoop me up out of the car and carry me upstairs to bed. I loved the security of being in my father’s protective arms, with my face in the crook of his neck and the smell of Aqua velva on his shirt.

My Great Grandmother's words of wisdom to live by: You are going to grow up wondering where your life went if you think about the past. People are going to leave. Some through the door, some through death. Always be okay with yourself before your okay with anybody else. Be respected and not feared. Old relationships are always a lesson to the new ones. God will never give you more than you can handle. #grandmalife

I was recently overseeing the inventory in the toys department. While working closely with a woman who was probably in her early twenties, she asked, “What perfume are you wearing?”. “Happy,” I replied. She smiled and said, “It reminds me of my grandma.” ***Hmmm, thinking it might be time to switch up my perfume asap!
