This depressing topic is eating at me, but lately am I seeing a lot of ladies posting "My person just died". Our men seem to be dropping like flies faster than their grandparents did.Love them while you have them! My husband of 18 years was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It was horrid. But he survived, just barely. Tons of complications-sepsis, C-Diff, blood clots, an ostomy. We had a few really good years and then found that the cancer metastasized to his lungs and his brain. Huge tumor on the cerebellum that required surgery. He'd just taken a job working on Blue Origin, the rocket that Bezos was funding. He was a brilliant engineer. His prognosis was decent until they found "at least" 12 more tumors and lesions in his brain that were not able to be treated surgically. Radiation rendered him unable to walk. Chemo for the lung cancer made him so sick. I was his caregiver for a long time and it was my honor to be able to do it, but it was exhausting and it wore me out in a way that I can't possibly describe. I'm 56 and feel like I've aged 20 years in the past few years. My husband died about a year and a half ago after a really long fight to stay alive. You never really think it's going to happen until it happens. And it's so much worse than you think it's going to be. He was my best friend and I miss him with my entire soul. Remember everyone, get medical check ups regularly! #healthcare

I've been disabled since age 27, while pregnant with my daughter, and looking into assisted living now, as It's become increasingly difficult to live independently. My question to her [my daughter] was, if I were to move to an assisted living facility near her, would she visit, as she's living in another state 8 hours away. I lost my parents when I was 28 and 35, and was the sole carer for both of them as I wasn't working and my sister was. I wasn't asking her for anything other than visits. I'm not expecting to live past another 20 years. I just got rid of a 'roommate' that moved in to provide help for me, and it ended up in a domestic violence situation, which she's [my daughter] well aware of. Which is why the 'get a roommate' was so hurtful. Yes, we have a strained relationship as my ex husband absconded with her to another state when she was 6, because i was disabled, and it took some time to get him to court. At this point in time, if I were to pass in my home, I don't think I'd be found until the smell became noticeable. And, to those that laughed.
I know many are dealing with aging parents, but what if we're the aging parents? I'm trying to have a serious conversation with my daughter about my aging and my future needs, and she thinks I'm trying to manipulate her by asking these questions. She point blank told me she couldn't deal with it and suggested I get a roommate.

As a mother I am not sure how my parents and family went thru this. Luckily I was young enough to not remember any of it. I am also lucky to have minimal scaring. I have a bald spot where I will always have to part my hair, a scar on my back and on the sides of my legs from skin grafts, but it could have been so much worse. Thankful for all the amazing doctors i had during this time and literally when I say I have tough skin, i mean in more ways than one. This is proof that as humans we are resilient creatures, we can overcome whatever comes at us, it’s all about how you decide to handle it and even in the shittiest of moments, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
